Text Message Alerts Home / Text Alerts / With the library’s Shoutbomb text messaging service, you can use your mobile phone to receive text notices about holds that are available, items that are due soon and overdue items. Eligible items can be renewed via text. Add family members’ cards to your Shoutbomb account with keyword ADDCARD . The library does not charge a fee for this service. Your mobile plan’s regular text messaging rates apply. Signing Up To get started, text the keyword SIGNUP from your cellphone texting app to 833-403-1353. Reply to the prompts from Shoutbomb, asking for your library card number and PIN. Once your Shoutbomb registration has been completed, you will automatically get text notices about holds to pick up, items that are due soon and overdue items. A text will be sent only when activity on your account triggers a message, or information is requested. Why is my library PIN required? To protect your privacy and library account, your PIN is required when signing up for Shoutbomb text alerts. This is the same PIN used for logging into your online library account and prevents others from accessing your library information. Alert Types Hold Pickup A text alert is sent when an item you requested is ready for pickup. The message will display a portion of the title and indicate the pickup location. Hold Pickup alerts are sent at the top of the hour. Renewal/Courtesy Alerts An alert will be sent two (2) days before an item is due. Items eligible for renewal may be renewed by following the directions in the alert. Renewal/Courtesy alerts are sent at 9:00am. Overdue Alerts Overdue alerts are sent seven (7) days after an item’s due date. Items eligible for renewal may be renewed by following the directions in the alert. Overdue alerts are sent at 9:00am. Library Card Expiration Library card expiration alerts are sent six (6) weeks prior to your library registration expiring. Your record must be renewed to avoid interruption in service and keep your information current. Commands MYBOOKS Request the current status of all your library items including holds, fines and current checked out items. ADDCARD Text ADDCARD and follow the prompts to add another library account to your notifications. This is useful for family members to get notifications on multiple cards with one mobile number. IOWEU Request the current fines linked to your card(s). MYCARDS Display all cards and their expiration dates, linked to your phone number. SWITCHPHONE To update your phone number or carrier. DROPCARD Cancel text notices for a card. HELP Get information about all Shoutbomb commands. RESEND Get the last message from Shoutbomb. QUIT Ends all text notifications and cancels your registration to Shoutbomb. Reply to the instructions.

Home / Copy/Print/Scan/Fax / Copy/Print/Scan/Fax Technology Access The Greenville Public Library offers free wifi and public computers for accessing the internet, creating documents, and printing. Supported software applications installed on all public computers include, but are not limited to: Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and Internet browsers Microsoft Edge, Mozilla Firefox, and Google Chrome. Typical plug-ins such as Adobe Acrobat Reader are included. Library staff are happy to provide assistance in using the computers as time and staffing allow. Staff cannot process financial or personal transactions on behalf of library patrons. Files can be temporarily saved to public computers, but will be deleted upon reboot. Computers shut down automatically 15 minutes before closing. Printing 15¢ per page for black & white copies. 25¢ per page for color. Photocopying 15¢ per page for black & white copies. 25¢ per page for color. Double sided copying is available. Faxing Faxing costs are $1.00 per page, both outgoing and incoming. There is no charge for a cover page. Scanning Free scanning is available with the help of a staff person.

There is a binder with instructions, sky maps, observatory information and more.

Material renewals, returning items, fines and fees Home / Borrowing Information / Borrowing Information Overdue Fines Most Greenville Public Library items are fine free. Some of our special collections still accrue overdue fines. The information below pertains to the Greenville Public Library only, other libraries in the Ocean State Libraries network may have different loan rules, renewal policies, and fine structures. Books, magazines, CDs & DVDs, puzzles & board games: No fines 7-day books - 50¢ per day Library of Things items - $2 per day Kits - $2 per day Tablet - $2 per day Video Games - $2 per day Museum Passes - $5 per day Renewals Most library materials may be renewed. The library system is currently automatically renewing eligible items. Renewals may not be possible if there is a waiting list for the specific item, or if the owning library does not allow renewals. Returns Books may be returned to any public library that participates in the Ocean State Libraries (OSL) system. It is best to check with each owning library about their policies. Some libraries require certain items be returned to their location. When returning materials inside the library please put them in the book drop, do not leave them on the counter. Book Drop For your convenience the book drop is open 24 hours a day. It is located to the left of the main entrance of the building. Most items can be returned in the book drop. Telescopes, E-Readers, Museum Passes, and other special items must be returned inside the building. Items returned in the book drop before the library opens will be credited as being returned the previous day. If for any reason the book drop is overflowing please do not leave items outside, hold on to them and contact the library. You will be held responsible for any items left outside. Reserves Most circulating materials may be reserved. Some libraries do not allow reserves on their items, and your request may be denied for this reason. If you place a hold on a Greenville item from home, which shows a status of available, please keep in mind that it may not be pulled by the time you come in to pick it up. To ensure your item is waiting for you please call the library and a staff member will be put it aside for you. Items may be reserved over the phone and held up to 7 days. When placing a reserve on an item with an available status at another library the average wait time is 2-5 business days. Greenville Library Lost or Damaged Items If you have lost an item belonging to the Greenville Library you have the option to either pay for the missing item or replace it. If you choose to replace the item you should notify the library. You can buy a gently used copy of the same item or a brand new one. Former library books are not acceptable as replacement copies. If the item is not replaced or paid for you may be referred to a collection agency. Lost or Damaged Item from another OSL library If you have lost an item belonging to another OSL library you will need to contact the owning library to see what your options are. Most libraries require you to pay for the item, a handful allow replacement copies. Paying Library Fines & Other Fees Online Fines can be paid online by going to the OSL Catalog and clicking on the Sign In link . Once you log in you'll have access to several options, including “Pay Online." Questions? Reserve a meeting room at the Greenville Public Library. Home / Reserve a Meeting Room / Reserve a Meeting Room The library has the following spaces available for reservation: 2 Study Rooms (1 - 2 people) Baker Room (15 - 20 people) Recital Room (up to 40 people) Meeting rooms may be used by organizations engaged in educational, cultural, intellectual, or charitable activities, whose programs are open to the general public. Non-profit groups and organizations may use the meeting rooms free of charge during library hours for business meetings, discussion groups, or programs. Other groups, organizations, businesses and individuals may use the meeting rooms during library hours for a fee of $100, payable in advance. Books borrowed at any RI public library may be returned at any other public library in the state. (Local policies may vary.) Ocean State Libraries Borrowing Policy You can register for a library card online, in person at the library, or via mail. Register Online To register online, you must have an email address and be 18 years of age or older. Click here to get started. To register for a card in person, you will need photo identification showing your name and current mailing address, or two of the following: Car registration Personal or payroll check with printed name and address Current utility bill Welfare Card Identification by a member of staff Telephone directory City directory Valid Green Card Rental/lease agreement in patron’s name Proof of official mailing – credit card bill, bank statement, not personal mail Passport Military ID To apply by mail, print an application here and mail it to: Greenville Public Library 573 Putnam Pike Greenville, RI 02828 Non-Rhode Island Residents Non-residents who pay property taxes in Rhode Island may obtain an OSL library card at no charge with proof of property taxes paid. All other non-residents may obtain a statewide OSL library card for an annual fee of $171.
