About Us
The Greenville Public Library provides public library services to the Town of Smithfield as well as the greater Rhode Island community through our membership in the Ocean State Libraries (OSL) consortium. The Library was founded in 1882 and originally located in what is now the parking lot of St. Thomas Episcopal Church. A new facility on the present site was built in 1956, with additions added in 1966 and 1991. The Library is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
